What is foster care?

Foster homes are usually private households that are willing to take in and care for one or more dogs until they find a forever home.

They are particularly important to us as they provide a safe and loving environment for the dogs to recover and learn new skills before being placed in a home. The foster homes work closely with us and perform important tasks such as monitoring the dogs’ health and well-being, running training and socialisation programmes and preparing them for placement in a forever home.

We are always looking for foster homes where the dogs can stay for short to long periods of time. The periods can vary from just a few weeks to several months. The dogs should be able to stay in a good foster home until we have found the perfect “forever home”.

Your tasks at a glance

  • You are the caregiver/family for the dog. You must therefore have time, patience and a lot of love to give.
  • You take over the basic training, starting with housetraining and first commands such as sit, down and stay.
  • You go for walks regularly.
  • You enable social contacts for the resocialisation of the dog.
  • You take care of the health of the animal, i.e. you are also responsible for vet visits (the costs are covered by us).

What obligations do I have?

In addition to the duties mentioned above, you will help us with the placement of our furry friend, provide interested parties with information about your foster dog and coordinate visits from potential adopters for the dog.

A garden would be nice, but is not a must. Time and love are the most important requirements
for a good foster home.

I can’t get on with the dog. What now?

If, as a foster home, you notice after a while that you don’t get along with your foster dog, just get in touch with your point of contanct.

We will find a solution. Sometimes a counselling session or a visit to a dog trainer can help.
If that doesn’t help either, we will  move the dog to another foster home.

I want to keep my foster dog!

You’ve fallen in love with your foster dog and want to keep him yourself?
Even better! We will conclude a protection contract with you and your darling can stay with you forever!
